All Pakistan Aircraft Registration Marks

On August 14, 1947, Pakistan emerged as a new independent country on world map. Registration and entry of aircraft in newly independent nation's 'Pakistan Aircraft Register' also began in year 1947.

Initially VT-CP* registration series starting from registration VT-CPA from India's civil aircraft register was reserved for aircraft to be registered in then newly independent Pakistan. However registrations in Indian series VT-CP* were not taken up by aircraft to be registered in Pakistan and eventually registration of those aircraft began in Pakistan with Pakistan's own aircraft registration nationality mark.

The nationality mark of an aircraft or flying machine registered in Pakistan begins with prefix 'AP-'. The aircraft registration mark prefix is followed by a group of three letters/alphabets (AP-***) assigned to the aircraft and included in its certificate of registration.

List of aircraft registered in Pakistan since 1947 - The list will be updated & edited on regular basis.

Pakistan Aircraft Registration Mark

The nationality mark of an aircraft or flying machine registered in Pakistan begins with prefix 'AP-'. The aircraft registration mark prefix is followed by a group of three letters/alphabets (AP-***) assigned to the aircraft and included in its certificate of registration.

Under Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority rule, position and size of registration mark on aircraft or flying registered in Pakistan should follow following rules:

Airship:

On an airship, the marks shall be located on the hull or on the stabilizer surfaces; if the marks are located on the hull they shall be placed lengthwise on each side of the hull and also on its upper surface on the lie of symmetry. If the marks are located on the stabilizer surfaces they shall be positioned on the horizontal and on the vertical stabilizers; the marks on the horizontal stabilizer shall be located on the right half of the upper surface and on the left half of the lower surface with the tops of the letters/alphabets towards the leading edge; the marks on the vertical stabilizer shall be located on each side of the bottom half of the stabilizer, with the letters/alphabets placed horizontally. The marks shall be at least fifty cms in height.

Spherical Balloon:

On a spherical balloon other than an unmanned free balloon, the marks shall be located in two places diametrically opposite each other and near the maximum horizontal circumference of the balloon; the marks shall be visible from the sides and from the ground and shall be at least fifty cms in height.

Non-spherical Balloon:

On a non-spherical balloon, other than an unmanned free balloon, the marks shall be located on each side near the maximum cross section of the balloon immediately above the rigging band, or immediately above the points of attachment of the basket suspension cables; the marks shall be visible from the sides and from the ground and shall be at least fifty centimeters in height.

Heavier Than Air Aircraft:

On an aircraft which is heavier-than-air the marks shall be located on the left half of the lower surface of the wing structure, or extending across the whole of the lower surface of the wing structure. The marks shall be equidistant from the leading and trailing edges of the wings or as close to this position as possible, with the tops of the letters/alphabets towards the leading edge of the wing. Marks shall be located on each side of the fuselage, or equivalent structure, between the wings and the tail surface, or shall have the marks on each side of the upper half of the vertical tail surface and if the vertical tail unit has multiple surfaces, the marks shall be positioned on the outboard sides of the outer surfaces. The marks on the wings shall be at least fifty centimeters in height, and on the fuselage or equivalent structure, or on the vertical tail surfaces, they shall be at least thirty centimeter in height.

Type & Dimension of Letters/Alphabets for Registration Mark:

The letters/alphabets shall be capital letters in Roman characters without ornamentation. The letters/alphabets in each separate group of marks shall be of equal height. Except for the letter/alphabet "I", the width of each letter/alphabet and the length of a hyphen shall be two-thirds of the height of a letter/alphabet. The letters/alphabets and hyphens shall be formed by solid lines, the thickness of which shall be one-sixth of the height of a letter/alphabet and shall be of a colour contrasting clearly with the background. Each letter/alphabet shall be separated from that which it immediately precedes or follows by a space of not less than one quarter of the width of a letter/alphabet and for this purpose a hyphen shall be regarded as a letter/alphabet.
